Print: Locations
The
outcome of this project will be a fashion film that will aim to advertise my
print designs. Alongside this film, six print designs will also be presented. The
creative process will involve testing and creating different print designs for
my six final print designs. Before I make my final fashion film, I will implement
a test shoot a week prior to experiment with my prints using projection, editing,
and different types of music. My print designs will replicate my research into
Thailand temples and Manchester and Thai architecture and nature. With both my
print designs and film, I am particularly aiming for a 60s psychedelic theme
inspired by Andy Warhol. My fashion film will be presented for a high fashion
market. The inspirations for my film will be primarily Nick Knight and Mark
Mawson. I will also research into Nick Knight's fashion films and, from this,
select different ideas for my own fashion film. The music for my film will be
royalty free from a selection that I will apply for with Moby’s website. The main
aim of the film is to offer an idea of how my prints will be displayed on
garments. In addition, I want to portray how my print designs look with
movement. My high fashion inspirations are Mary Katrantzou and Nicolas Jebran Couture F/W 2013. I am interested in these
designers for their bold, athletic colours and expressive shapes. I will try to
represent these specific elements in my work. I envisage my print designs
within a high fashion setting or alternatively displayed in one of Nick Knights
fashion films.
Live project:
My live project consists of a
sketchbook of drawings and designs, digital print design samples with a final
print design. The final print design will be A4, mounted on a board alongside
one colourway and entered into the renowned Bradford Textiles competition. The
inspirational ideas and concepts originated from Thai culture and natural
scenery. I am particularly drawn to the vibrant, visually striking colour
pallet, which can be found in images from Thailand. Furthermore, Thailand holds
a personal significance after a trip there in 2014. I was overwhelmed by the
beautiful scenery and cultural traditions that I witnessed. I feel that the
colours and imagery used in Thailand represents a peaceful and tranquil energy.
This was a component I wanted to integrate into my designs and general ethos of
my work. The end result designs are aimed to be marketed within the high
fashion industry. I continually seek inspiration from key players such as Mary Katrantzou and Nicolas Jebran to understand what is current and popular
within this specialised industry.
